On June 10 2016 at 10:00 am, at the premises of the EU Info Centre, an event for announcing the aims and activities of the project “Civil Participation for Local Democracy” was held. This is a under the IPA Civil Society Facility and Media Programme 2014, financed by the European Union.
The project aims to provide active participation of the CSOs in the local policy creation process in the field of culture, as well as participation in their implementation. Within the project, a Local Cultural Strategies and an Action Plans will be developed.
CSOs will participate in the open call for grants intended for strengthening their capacity and for implementation of the Action Plans, which will certainly contribute to strengthening the quality of municipal services, said Juliana Karai, Project Coordinator.
Martin Klauke, of Sector for Cooperation in the DEU, claimed that the EU will continue giving out grants towards creating sustainable growth of CSOs on a local and national level. In addition, he pointed out the importance of civil society in bonding the public and the political process, as well as establishing constructive dialogue between the citizens and the national and the local authorities. Klauke highlighted that the EU pays great attention to cultural policies and recognizes them as a human right, and investing in CSOs will ease the process of the Republic Macedonia joining the EU.
The Project Civic Participation for Local Democracy started in January2016, and will be implemented by June 2017. The project is implemented by the Foundation Open Society – Macedonia (FOSM) and the Center for Local Democracy Development (CLDD), in the Municipalities of Struga, Strumica and Centar.
